Tutti Frutti icecream parlour, Torrox Costa

My friends, my son and I finished off a relaxing day by treating ourselves to icecream dishes at the recommended, newly opened, Tutti Frutti icecream parlour along the Torrox Costa promenade. There was adequate seating outside so we chose to sit in the shade. We ordered two icecream dishes from the multi-language illustrated menu: Brazilian Delight and Summer Fruits; scoops of icecream topped with whipped cream. I went inside to chose some mixed flavoured scoops from the vast selection of soft icecream in the display cabinet. I chose coffee, hazelnut, chocolate and mint. Although the servings were quite generous, they were also so yummy that I could possibly have eaten another serving!

It was definitely a fine choice for a treat to end our day.  Perhaps my only grumble was that I did find the prices a bit steep, but I shouldn’t complain because my friends treated me. :)

Lunch at Asiatico Jing, Torrox Costa

Proof was provided today that Torrox Costa possesses many of the finest eateries East of Malaga. Part  of a relaxing day out at the beach with long-standing friends of mine and my son consisted of a menu del dia lunch at chinese restaurant Asiatico Jing. A three-course substantial quality meal was provided for a mere 5.95 euros each. For starters we chose Chinese salad and a light savoury soup. The main course consisted of chicken with almond sauce, beef with vegetables and a spicy sauce chicken. All accompanied by egg fried special rice that was cooked perfectly. Dessert was a choice of icecream, flan or a cup of coffee.

I’m not a lover of chinese food, but I was impressed by the high standard of this restaurant’s cuisine. In my opinion, there is nothing more off-putting than having food served with an over-abundance of oil, sauce, salt or monosodium glutamate food flavourings which, unfortunately,  is the case with dishes prepared in many chinese restaurants. The food at the Asiatico Jing chinese restaurant does not fall into that category, and was deliciously faultless.

Asiatico Jing was busy – as always – despite the ‘credit crunch’. Its popularity is due to its first-class cuisine. I have now dined twice at this restaurant, will do so again, and highly recommend it.

A new Italian Ice Cream Parlour of distinction in Torrox Costa

YouTube Preview ImageThe 9th of April was a day to remember for the lovers of fine Italian ice cream when Jak and Camila opened their new venture with the finest ice cream that I have ever tasted.  Although only open for a few hours, visitors to the Costa were quickly trying out the flavours and quality of the wide-ranging ices on show.

I thought I would be adventurous by trying out a vanilla, kiwi, cherry and lemon combination and busied myself  by slowly savouring the different flavours as I studiously worked my way down through the layers.

It was, put simply, fabulous!  It was pure self-indulgence par excellence.  As I sat there, more and more people came to try out the new ice cream experience and sat, as I was, savouring pure quality.

One of my criteria for a good stop is to try the coffee out.  I was not disappointed when I found out that the new proprietors had researched the coffee with the same painstaking thoroughness that they had used to get the best ingredients available for their ice cream.  The coffee was delicious.

So where is this ice cream palace?

If you enter the Paseo Maritimo from the lighthouse side of Torrox Costa you need to walk a little, but this will just give you a good appetite for what is in store for you.  Keep walking until you are just past the Restaurante Asiatico.  Approximately some 50 metres further you will see the small and very new Italian Ice cream parlour.

Feast your eyes on the available flavours and make your choice.  You will be pleased that you did.

Dine and Dance at Restaurante Horto Malaga in Torrox Costa

A  recent innovation at the above restaurant on a Wednesday evening is the introduction of a modern jive session with instruction and freestyle dancing.

The restaurant has a good menu and excellent service.  At the back is a large conference or dining room where the dancing takes place and the lovely thing about it is that the spanish and brits mix together. Absolutely brilliant atmosphere and it does not really matter if your single or a pair because thee is always someone to dance with.

If you want to find it and try it then travel down the Autovia until you get to the Torrox turning and then head down to Torrox Costa.  You will then need to turn right as though heading for Malaga on the coast road.

Drive as far as the hotel the turn off for Laguna Beach which is on the left hand side of the road and the restaurant Horta Malaga is immediately on the right hand side of the road.

A Night Out at Chinese Restaurant Asiatico Jing

This review was produced by my good friend, Elaine Newport-Black.

Our visit to this delightful restaurant was a really memorable one for us, reason being it was to celebrate the birthday of our special friend.

We were greeted by friendly smiling staff that immediately seated us and made us feel most welcome.  Our party consisted of 18 people. The staff were very efficient and promptly took our orders.  Our table was served without delay and the delicious food  placed on the table piping hot, considering the amount they had to cater for; this was a feat in itself.

The restaurant is tastefully decorated and extremely clean; it is situated on Torrex sea front. In the day time it would be a lovely place to eat and then enjoy the Mediterranean sea or in the evening after eating, go for a stroll and take in the sea air. We have no hesitation in recommending anyone that enjoys Chinese food of a high standard to go along and sample their wonderful fare and warm hospitality.
